Features to know about

Dial In the Perfect Balance Every Time: Built-In Tongue Weight Scale and App Guidance

Getting your setup balanced right can make all the difference between a smooth ride and a stressful one. The Weigh Safe True Tow Weight Distribution Hitch includes a built-in scale that shows your trailer’s tongue weight directly on the hitch. If it’s outside that 10–15% sweet spot of your gross towing weight, just shift your load or adjust using the integrated lead screw. The companion app makes things even easier—enter your weights and measurements, and it calculates the exact distributed tongue weight you should aim for. With the 2" shank and 6" drop, you’ll be able to set your system accurately and confidently every time.

Stay Steady in Wind and Traffic: Integrated 4-Point Sway Control

Crosswinds and passing semis can push a trailer around, but this hitch keeps you planted. The True Tow uses built-in tension and friction points to correct sway before it becomes a problem. With 4-area sway control, you’ll feel steadier at highway speeds and in gusty conditions. The trunnion spring bar design helps maintain consistent pressure and keeps your trailer tracking straight behind you, even through long hauls or uneven pavement.

Simplify Setup and Adjustments: Smart, Step-by-Step Design

Old-style weight distribution systems can take a lot of trial and error to get right. The True Tow makes setup simple with a process guided by its app and on-hitch scale. Just hitch up, run through the few setup steps, and adjust the lead screw until the scale shows your distributed target weight. No guesswork, no complicated tools, just a clear process that gets you balanced and ready to roll faster.

Built Strong for Confident Towing: 12,500 lbs GTW and 1,250 lbs TW Capacity

Rated for a maximum gross towing weight of 12,500 lbs and up to 1,250 lbs of tongue weight, this system is engineered for serious towing. It’s built from high-strength steel and includes a stainless steel 2-5/16" hitch ball that resists rust and corrosion. The included hitch lock secures the shank when parked, giving you peace of mind whether you’re overnighting at a campground or stopping for lunch on the road.

Smooth and Hassle-Free Towing: Full-Range Operation Without Disconnecting

Once your hitch is set, you can drive forward, back up, or make tight turns without having to disconnect anything. The True Tow’s design allows full-range movement while keeping the sway control active. It fits trailer frames up to 6" tall—or up to 8" using the optional kit (sold separately)—and the top-mount configuration keeps everything clean and easy to access. It’s a smooth, quiet, and reliable setup that makes towing feel easy every time you head out.

16 F250 towing 24' encl trailer. So far 1500 miles towing has been great. Nearly zero porpoising or sway. Set up seemed difficult from the videos and instructions but was actually a breeze. Was very quick and easy. W the f250 4x4 you probably only need 4" drop as the 6" is pretty low. Although my TT has a ton of clearance so you may need the rise w those as the 250 hitch only sits at 19" i also have a curt trutrack 4p which is very heavy to place on the receiver. The WS feels way lighter but maybe it's just the way its balanced. Also like that you can make adjustments easier w the WS vs the curt. The min torque on the WS is 150ft lb which everyone has a trq wrench for that, do yourself a favor and put more torque as it'll need it. Nothing w WS its just what happens w movement.

The instructions described the setup well. I can open my tailgate with this hitch!!! AWESOME!!!!! It's good to have peace of mind regarding whether the hitch is adequate for the tongue weight. I was surprised to see that I was 100lbs over what the rated tongue is listed as. My last hitch was inadequate...this one is perfect. Haven't towed with it yet, but I feel quite confident that it will safely handle the load.

Towed a 2026 Jayco trailer 7300gvw with a 2026 Chvy Silverado 1500 Z71 5.3. Estimated my combined weight truck +trailer and loads at 13500, TW was 850, followed instructions, installed hitch and used app. Set distributed TW to 2250 per the app. Towed 800 miles from NC to NY, on I81, no sway, proposing or other issues. Hitch is outstanding.

Manufacturer needs to either ship in 2 boxes or redesign/increase cardboard thickness. When I received the 1 box (UPS), it was almost split in half and full of packing tape to hold box together. I was missing the lifting bar and spring arms. Those 2 items weighed 54 lb themselves. etrailer was very responsive in getting me the replacement items from manufacturer since I was picking up a new trailer in a week. Website wouldn't allow me to upload pictures.

This is my second WD hitch experience. Ease of setup and installation is better especially with the head unit. Not having to deal with spacers and washers makes this much easier. Bar installation, loading and unloading tension was a lot easier and didn't require the effort of last hitch. Adjusting for front wheelwell difference is a breeze making overall ride handling and ride quality super simple. This WD hitch is a definite "recommend". I'm long time etrailer.com customer and found this shipping experience to be even faster than transactions in the past. Way to go etrailer.com!

I just received the Weigh Safe Heavyweight distribution hitch. The one quite heavy as can be imagined package arrived in perfect condition. After unboxing the hitch, I’m impressed with the quality and workmanship. I can not report on the performance at this time, however the installation manual and user guide is quite clear to understand and follow. Also etrailer customer service is fantastic and I recommend purchasing anything through them as I’m a repeat customer.

by:

Installed according to printed instructions and videos. Downloaded app and this thing will not keep my trailer from swaying. I was so hopeful but now regret I spent $1070 on this hitch and I can’t keep my trailer between the lines when there is any wind.  I have only used the hitch once and now going to have to buy a different hitch.

by:

Setup was quick and easy, VERY well built system. The washers they sent were not the proper grade so they split but etrailer QUICKLY replaced them as well as the brackets that were scratched while torquing. Overall I am very pleased with my purchase. I have a 2022 ram 2500 Cummins on 38s with a Carli 3.5 pintop soft suspension setup with king shocks and what a difference towing. I would say this system corrected 55% of my squat issue. Granted, the system is not designed to help with squat however it did! I did tow with the system and noticed a night and day difference in trailer performance. Shipping was fantastic and the box came intact and very well put together. I received my packaged the next day with free shipping. When I called to place the order, Tiffany was kind and polite and was VERY knowledgable on products. Thank you again!

by:

The hardware and design look great. The issue is that it is dependent on a companion app. The app the manual says to download is incompatible with the current Android OS. The other available Weigh Safe app, won't take/use the "optional" weight distribution load ratings so that according to the app my F-150 with max tow package rated for 12000 lbs with 1220lb tongue wt rating when using a WDH. Weigh Safe customer support puts you on hold for 10 minutes and then punts you to voice mail. Hence the single star.

Initial set up quite simple with the app. Took it for a short test run. Noticeable upgrade from my curt. Towing a 19 ft. Geo pro with 4runner.

Looks solid…best packaged heavyweight item I’ve ever received. I haven’t had a chance to use it yet but I expect it’s a solid product.

I really should buy all my stuff from etraile!!! Always fast, they customer service is always great. Thank you always etrailer

Love the feeling is getting when this product really easy to set up

by:

Built like a tank, much better than my other hitch, it was used hitch that came with the camper that was welded together for their truck. I'm sure this one will do fine and had great reviews from wandering weekends on YouTube.

by:

The hitch is perfect for our camper. Installation was a breeze. I highly recommend weigh safe.
Customer service was amazing!!

It pulls my RV better than any other weight distribution hitch I’ve owned.

  • Is Weight Distribution Needed for 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500 Towing 2019 Keystone Hideout 22RBWE
Hey Rex! Those are some great questions. A weight distribution hitch (WDH) isn't always needed but in your case you will want one. Typically if the weight of your trailer is more than 50% of the weight of your vehicle it is a good idea to use a WDH. If you are getting a lot of rear sag, trailer sway, or find it hard to stop or steer those are also good reasons to use one. I'm assuming based on that engine you have a 2019 Silverado 1500. The GVWR of your Keystone Hideout is 7,600 lbs so...

  • Weight Distribution Hitch Recommendation for Living Vehicle CyberTrailer
Thanks for reaching out, James! That's going to be a pretty sweet setup you'll be putting together! I really like the 12.5K Weigh Safe True Tow Weight Distribution Hitch # WS94RR for this application as well. The built-in tongue weight scale makes sure you get the weight shifted around in your trailer the right way every single time. This one is for a 2" hitch receiver, and the clamps fit up to a 6" tall trailer frame, with the option of getting the Kit # WS89RR if the CyberTrailer frame...

  • Choosing Weight Distribution Hitch for 2021 Ram 1500 Big Horn Towing Car Trailer
Hey James! A weight distribution hitch is definitely the best way to reduce that rear sag. It will also cut down on sway for a much improved towing experience. The correct hitch depends on the tongue weight of your setup. As of recently, I'm a big fan of the Weigh Safe True Tow Weight Distribution Hitch. This system is easy to adjust and has a built in scale so you can make sure it is set perfectly every time, no matter how you have the trailer loaded. I'm not sure what the specs are...

Hey Mark, thanks for providing all the details! I see you ordered the 18.5K Weigh Safe True Tow Weight Distribution Hitch (WDH) # WS49MR. This might be a little heavy for your application, but if you have your trailer weighed down to the GVWR and a 15% tongue weight you should be fine. I am a little interested that you went with a WDH with a 6" drop when your old WDH had a 9" drop/rise. Does your new camper sit higher than your old camper?

  • Availability of Locking Pin for Weigh Safe True Tow Hitch Ball
Hey Mark! Weigh Safe does not offer a locking pin for the True Tow # WS94RR hitch ball. I'm sure the thinking behind it is that you're either towing with a trailer hooked up so the ball can't be removed, or you aren't towing and store the True Tow head and shank in the trailer or vehicle. The pin does screw in in addition to the retaining clip so it wouldn't be quite as simple as pulling the pin and walking off with the ball if someone really wanted to take it. The only way to be sure...

  • Do I need a weight distribution hitch for a 2013 Porsche Diesel towing a Pebble Flow RV?
Thanks for reaching out Scott and we appreciate you choosing etrailer! First off, the Pebble Flow is one of my favorite RV's released over the past 5 years. The big thing to keep in mind is the manufacturer’s U.S. rated towing capacity for your Cayenne. While you may see higher ratings in other markets, those don’t always translate directly due to differences in testing standards, cooling, braking, and regulations. With the Pebble Flow’s 6,800 lb GVWR, you’re getting fairly close to...

Hello Tom, Thank you so much for the detailed information, especially having the Cat Scale weight so we know how your weight is distributed. I wish every customer was as thorough as you are. I really like the Equal-i-zer system that you have been using, the straight bars with the brackets give you better sway control than the systems with the chains. You've done your homework well and with the range of 760 lbs - 1,160 lbs tongue you are not going to want to go with the 8.5K item # WS79VR. • Solution to Allow Weigh Safe True Tow WDH to Clear Tailgate
Hey Forest! You aren't going to get the clearance you need from moving to the Heavyweight. Even if you did, that system is going to be overrated so you wouldn't want to use it with your trailer. You're better off sticking with the Middleweight # WS94RR (2" shank) or # WS59MR (2-1/2" shank). All of their shanks are the same length and you can't use shanks from other systems so that is out of the question. Hello Mark, Happy to help you find the right weight distribution hitch to meet your needs. I don’t have a database that supplies specs for trailers (though it would be pretty sweet if one existed), so based on my research, the Rockwood Mini Lite 2304KS (depending on the year) has a GVWR between 4,900 and 5,933 lbs. What I recommend doing is getting the Weigh Safe True Tow Weight Distribution Hitch item # WS94RR with the 2" shank. This way you are setup currently with the truck you're using now. • Best Weigh Safe Weight Distribution Hitch For Brinkley I275 GVWR 9,600 lbs
Hey Brad, thanks for reaching out, and nice camper! With your Brinkley I275 you are right in the sweet spot for the Middleweight system. The Weigh Safe Middleweight is designed for trailers in the 8,500–12,500 lb range, while the Heavyweight jumps way up into 18,500–22,000 lb territory. That means the Heavyweight is overkill for your setup. • Why Would Rockwood 2608 Travel Trailer Sway
Hey Albert, there's typically two big things that cause trailer sway.
